ETFE

ETFE, also known as an ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, is composed of carbon, fluorine, and hydrogen, and has higher tensile strength than PTFE, although PTFE will stretch before breaking. ETFE also has higher heat resistance, with a melting point of 327°C, which is 60°C higher than PTFE. ETFE is difficult to burn because it requires air with a higher oxygen concentration.

PTFE, also known as polytetrafluoroethylene, is made of carbon and fluorine atoms. People know that it is usually because of Teflon (Teflon) non-stick coating. The coefficient of friction of PTFE is extremely low, which means that it is “non-sticky”. This means that it is an excellent material for high-wear components. It is also often used as an insulating material.

The lower intrinsic energy is an advantage of ETFE, and recent developments have seen the cross-linked polymer XL-ETFE, which is stronger than ordinary polymers. This material has been widely used, most notably in the Beijing Water Cube of the 2008 Olympic Games.

In particular, the swollen texture can be seen in the internal “bubble” created by the polymer. Steel cables put the building under tension, while the roof expands by drawing in recirculated air.

ETFE and PTFE are more and more widely used in the construction industry. ETFE is usually used more in the construction of frame structures. It is easier to mass-produce and strong enough. PTFE is used under high-tech conditions such as cable and 5G applications. Its stretchability and heat resistance makes it suitable for more application scenarios.
